*Updated* 2019 Trip Fundraising Deadlines, Gifts, & Awards

Below are a list of fundraising deadlines and thank you gifts*.



Important Deadlines:
  • Reminder: travel fees, all paperwork, and any other requirements (such as potential VIRTUS online Safe Environment training, if needed) must be completed by May 15, 2019. If you have not already done so, please turn these in as soon as possible! Contact Monica Rising for more information (see the Contact Us section on the website for contact info) or if you have any questions or concerns.
  • The fundraising minimum of $500 must be met by June 14, 2019 
  • The fundraising period ends on June 14. The Top 15 fundraisers will be recognized and awarded on this date of June 14.


And now for the fun stuff... fundraising thank you gifts*:

Hit fundraising milestones and receive one of our great thank you gifts! Not only will you get some cool swag, but you’ll also help BASICS grow closer to reaching across borders to build relationships and community in addition to providing educational and immersion opportunities while promoting human dignity.
  • June 1 - The "Committed" Gift: if you raise 60% of the fundraising goal, which is $300, by this date of June 1, you'll receive a great Tijuana cotton T-shirt; now you have one less clothing item to worry about choosing for your trip. 
  • June 14 - There are two gifts with this date!
    • The "Extra Mile" Gift: if you raise 200% of the fundraising goal, which is $1,000, by this date of June 14, you'll receive a comfy and cozy 2019 trip hoodie which will keep you nice and warm.
    • The "VIP" Gift (2019 club): if you raise $2,019 by this date of June 14, you'll receive a customized trip hammer, another surprise thank you gift, as well as plenty of recognition throughout the trip!


And the Award Goes To*:

Be on the lookout to see if you are in the running to win these awards on June 14:
  • "Bernie Award” for most low dollar donors ($20 or less)
  • "Bruce Wayne Award” for most high dollar donations ($75 or more)
  • “Superhero Award” for most donors overall
  • “Cheetah Award” for earliest participant to raise $500
  • “Falcon Award” for earliest participant to raise $2,019
Other surprise awards are in the works too!


    *** The not-so fine print:



    • You can receive more than one thank you gift; collect them all!
    • To be eligible and qualify to receive the fundraising thank you gifts discussed above or one of the awards discussed above, you must do one or more of the following:
      • have a minimum of 5 donations from people outside of your immediate family
      • host a large event/ activity (e.g. a dinner fundraising party or community garage sale), but this is at the discretion of the fundraising director in order to qualify

    Your First Fundraising Steps

    Follow these first steps to set up your campaign and begin fundraising: Create your page.  Your Crowdrise account is your fundraising base where you’ll customize your homepage, share your story, send emails, and access fundraising tools. See more information here about how to set up and access your Crowdrise account. Raise the bar. We recommend setting your goal above the $500 minimum (how does $1,000 sound?). It’s probably easier to exceed the minimum than you expect! And there are some great reasons to do so: you'll be helping more people and potentially getting some sweet swag in the process . Make your first ask!   Post on social media, email your BFF, call your mom—tell the world what you’re trying to accomplish. People will be blown away by what you’re about to do, and want to support you.
